Ramadhan 2026/1447 - Fitrah, Fidyah, and Kaffarah

As the Holy Month of Ramadhan approaches, WF-AID is pleased to announce the rulings regarding Fitrah, Fidyah, and Kaffarah for the year 2026/1447.

These sacred obligations are central to the discipline, integrity, and worship which serve as a means for believers to conclude Ramadhan with dignity, assurance, and a renewed sense of spiritual responsibility when fulfilled correctly and conscientiously.

Methodology

Rice has been identified as the primary staple food.

Fidyah and Kaffarah, calculations have been set at 750g per person (equivalent to one mudd), in line with Islamic rulings.

Fitrah, the requirement is 3kg of staple food per person, or its equivalent monetary value.

Fidyah: Compensation for Missed Fasts with a Valid Reason

Fidyah applies to believers who are unable to fast during Ramadhan due to legitimate reasons such as:

  • Old age
  • Chronic illness
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Failure to complete missed (qadha) fasts before the next Ramadhan begins

The Fidyah amount is determined by the cost of approximately 750 grams of staple food, which may be provided in cooked or uncooked form to a person in need.

Kaffarah: Recompense for Intentionally Broken Fasts

Kaffarah is required when a fast in Ramadhan is broken without a valid reason. For each missed fast, the individual must:

  1. Make up the missed day (qadha), by fasting for sixty consecutive days, or
  2. Feed sixty deserving people, each receiving 750 grams of staple food

This results in a total of 45 kilograms of staple food per broken fast, reflecting the gravity of the obligation and the mercy embedded in its fulfilment.

Fitrah (Fitrah): Purifying the Fast

Zakat al-Fitrah is an obligatory due from every duty-bound believer and must be paid once the moon of Shawwal is sighted.

WF-AID's valuation is based on a comprehensive UK market analysis, with rice identified as the most widely consumed staple food nationwide, ensuring accuracy, fairness and consistency for donors.
